We were asked to come to a meeting at Knickerbocker’s offices out in the wilds of Jersey somewhere. Then follow it up in the spring when the initial wave of low price point items shipped. We would launch just before the pre-sale of the toys. The plan was for us to publish comics and for our studio, Marvel Productions, to produce a number of animated half-hours-six, I think. I wrote the back story and the treatment for the first story. The Knickerbocker guy told me what they’d paid for this…item.

The dialogue was peppered with “Hells” and “damns,” and I can’t swear to it almost 30 years later, but I think there was a “bastard” or two in there. The story, as best one could discern it, was unnecessarily, excessively dark and violent. The art was well-drawn, I’ll allow that, but the storytelling was chaotic. Apologies to whomever created that thing, but it was pathetic and wrong-headed to an unbelievable degree. I don’t believe the thing was ever printed. The executive who approached us showed us what DC had created for them. Marvel Comics was their second choice as a creative services provider. They called their toy property, based on technology licensed from a Japanese company, the “MYSTERIONS.” The Secret Origin of the TRANSFORMERS – Part 1 – This excerpt is from Jim Shooter talking about the birth of Transformers. Which is interesting, because this Mysterion line does have a connection with Transformers. He's from a line called "MYSTERIONS." (Jim Shooter's spelling.) The theory being that the giant "M" on his hood actually stands for Mysterions and not Microman. In the book, apparently (not read it), Blake theorizes that G1 Brawn is not from the Microman line at all. In the video Dan talks about reading Blake Wright's "Toys Time Forgot." (Article on it here: Blake Wright Remembers "Toys That Time Forgot"). I was watching Dan Larson's (Toy Galaxy) new video (Found here: ). That's what I always heard, but now some people are saying that's not right. It was my understanding that G1 Brawn was from the Microman line. So maybe someone can shed some light on this.
